History has shown that the meeting of different cultures has often originated evolved and creative civilizations.
In the Middle Age some families of Italian colonists have been "forced" to live together with German colonists , thus creating the favourable conditions for the future estabilishment of a hard-working and inventive population.
All began around XII century when groups of farmers, shepherds and woodmen, coming from different places in Trentino and Tyrol, were sent to Andalo by the feudatories in order to cultivate and make fruitful their landed properties. Each family, characterized by different habits, cultures and manners of working, founded a small house nucleus that, little by little, turned into a "maso" a sort of real village nearly indipendet.
As years went by, in the territory of Andalo were founded fourteen "masi" wich, given the closness, exchanged goods and experiences, strengthening more and more neighbourliness and the bonds of friendship. Considering the age, all this was an unusual social phenomenon. A phenomenon lasting nowdays, in fact the town is still divided in fourteen "masi" wich could been defined as residential areas, each of them with his own "soul".
Today the most ancient houses have disappeared, but the citizens of Andalo continue to call the several built up areas withe the old names: Maso Toscana, Casanova, Bortolon, Doss, Roni, Mònech, Clamer, Fovo, Ghezzi, Cadìn, Pegorar, Pònt, Perli and Melchiori.
